Settings option not appearing on my screen

Alyssa December 10, 2024

I'm trying to change my personal notification settings in Jira. Per this article, I'm supposed to start by selecting Settings on the upper right corner of my screen. Problem is that there is no Settings option up there. Here's what I am seeing. Any help is appreciated - I am not at all familiar with Jira!Screenshot 2024-12-10 at 9.57.26 AM.png

Hey @Alyssa ,

The described procedure is if you are on the backend and it seems you are on the portal.

You can always try the direct link:

https://your-site.atlassian.net/jira/settings/personal/general

Thank you so much @Dirk Ronsmans! As I mentioned, I'm not familiar with Jira at all, so I wasn't aware of that distinction.

I followed the link you shared and was presented with a text box where I had to "request access" to Jira from a site admin. I went ahead and did that (seems odd, since don't I already have access to Jira if people in my company are already sending me items for review?). Hoping that access is granted by whomever needs to do so, and then I can get in and adjust those settings.

I appreciate your help!

@Alyssa ,

That's something different then. If you only have portal access, then most likely you are receiving "Customer Notifications" coming from a JSM project.

For those you cannot really select it yourself what notifications you'll recieve.

The link I shared is if you are a licensed user and have an Atlassian account, then you can actually define what "internal" notifications you'll get.

What type of notifications are you trying to customize?

Ah yes, that makes sense.

The problem: I'm receiving an individual email notification every time anyone leaves a comment on any item that I have been added to as a reviewer. I'm often on 10 or 15 items at a time, and multiple people leave comments back and forth, so it adds up to a lot of individual email notifications. If I use the "turn off notifications for this item" option, then I run the risk of not being notified if someone tags me at some point later on with an additional question or additional request for review. (I learned that the hard way!)

My hope is to instead receive a daily digest so it's just one email a day. In a perfect world, I would specifically love for that daily digest to only include comments where I have been tagged, but I know that may be too much personalization to ask.

@Dirk Ronsmans I realized I hadn't tagged you in my response (above). No rush, but would be curious if you have any suggestions for me. Thanks!
