Hello,
Can we perform a test migration from our on-prem Jira Server without losing our current license or access?
We’re currently running JIRA Core Server 7.3.1 (10 users) and are planning to migrate to Jira Cloud Free. I understand that the Cloud Migration Assistant requires version 7.6 or higher, which I’ve already tested successfully in a test environment.
Our concern is that we don’t want to complete the migration only to find that Jira Cloud doesn’t meet our needs and then lose write access to our existing on-prem Jira instance.
Could you please confirm if it’s possible to test the migration safely without affecting our current license or data?
Thanks,
Noble

Don't be worried, you Server license won't be gone, it will be there. As a safe side, I suggest you to create a sandbox env for your cloud site and trigger migration to sandbox to validate.
But I assure your on-prem site will be as it is, no issues with license or anything.
Thanks
Jayesh R
Don’t worry -your Server license will stay intact. Running a migration or even testing it won’t deactivate or affect your on-prem instance. As Jayesh mentioned, it’s a good idea to spin up a sandbox Cloud site and use it for validation. That way, you can safely check how your projects, workflows, and permissions behave in Cloud before making any final move.
If you’re planning a larger or phased migration later, you may want to look at OpsHub Migration Manager (OMM), an Atlassian Silver Solution Partner. It lets you migrate in stages or all at once -with zero downtime, no disruption, and no data loss. OMM also keeps your comments, attachments, relationships, and field mappings fully preserved, so your Cloud environment mirrors your Server setup accurately.
Here is a Atlassian marketplace listing on Jira on-prem to Jira Cloud migration for more information.
Good luck with your migration journey! :)
