Is there a plan to enable Resource based Capacity Planning in Jira/ Advanced Rodmaps?

Currently at best we can do Capacity Planning only at a Team level. It works in many situations but in a hybrid ways of working organisations tens to fall back on classical or older ways of working. That is when working without Resource level capacity planning and reporting becomes a roadblock.

P.S. I know additional plugins like Big Picture etc can help solve this equation.

Hey Saurabh,

Sorry for jumping in with a plugin suggestion — I know you asked about native Jira/Advanced Roadmaps. But I believe it’s worth considering something like ActivityTimeline since it gives you a lot of flexibility for resource-based capacity planning.

You can plan at the individual level, set custom work hours, track availability, and generate detailed reports. It’s super helpful, especially in hybrid environments where team-level planning just doesn’t cut it.

If sticking with native Jira is a must, I hope the team has this on their radar. But if you're open to it, this might save you a lot of headaches.

Let me know if you want to know more. (Note: I work for this app.)

Hi @Saurabh Chaudhary and welcome to the Community!

Only Atlassian themselves could provide real feedback on roadmap related questions and are not always able to provide that information.

I can tell you that at some point resource base planning has been a feature of Plans, when it was on server and still called Portfolio for Jira. The feature even allowed for skill-based resource planning. But in practice this proved simply not to work (not necessarily because it was technically impossible, but because it was impossible to keep the planning up to date as it was way too granular).

At Team '25 Atlassian introduced Talent in early access, a resource tracking and planning solution that will be coming as part of the new Strategy collection. So there is definitely investment in that area, but not directly as part of Plans in Jira.

Hope this helps!

Thanks @Walter Buggenhout ! That is useful information......let me check Team '25 Atlassian recording.

Just checked - Strategy Collection is the hi fi license which includes Jira Align.....that is for bigger organisations. Won't work for us!
