Team profiles, user profiles, and team directory are getting a new visual refresh!

Hi Community 👋

We’re excited to announce that we’re rolling out a new look for Atlassian users and teams.

At Team ‘25, Atlassian announced it’s brand refresh and visual brand system. This has been rolled out products such as Confluence already, we’re bringing this update to Teams and users by updating typography, components, colors, icons, and avatars.

Read below to learn more about what’s changing in for users and teams.

What’s changing

Typography

We’ve refreshed our typography alongside our products to increase readability and accessibility for all customers.

Iconography

Our new Team icons feature a modernized style with a consistent weight and style. These icons will be rolled out and consistent in all products.

Avatars

Previously, the team's identifying image was derived from the team header image.

We’ve refreshed this to use our new team avatars, which ensures a cohesive UI across the different products. These avatars will be released in our new brand color palette.

I appreciate the desire for standardized look and feel to the UI, however, the auto-created team avatars and de-individualization of the teams in the new teams directory makes it so much more difficult to differentiate one team from another.  We utilized the header image for the team to help identify the team, which is especially helpful when we have multiple pods or teams within a single Jira project (for example, all MSCRM teams might have different donut headers, and formerly donut icons/avatars), while Infrastructure teams might have tool images, and Marketing might have fruits (because, why not?). The attempt at UI standards has genericized these teams' identities, and while the header is still available when opening the team landing page, it makes differentiation difficult when viewing pick lists and team directory.
