Bamboo Upgrade from 6.5 to 8.0.12 error

Arya Kumar April 7, 2025

Hello, I am trying to upgrade bamboo server from 6.3.1 to 9.6 data centre version. As per the Atlassian upgrade documentation, the path to follow is 6.3.1 to 6.5 to 8.0.12 to 9.6.

6.3.1 to 6.5 went well but when i tried to upgrade from 6.5 to 8.0.12 , i am getting the following error in the atlasian-bamboo.log

Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: D:\Atlassian\Application Data\bamboo-home\xml-data\configuration\administration.xml (The system cannot find the file specified)

I checked the configuration folder and this file is missing. What could be the reason ? Did it get corrupted during the upgrade?

Hello Arya,

Welcome to Atlassian community.

In Bamboo 8 the folder structures were changed a little bit. administration.xml should be now found at <bamboo-home>shared>configuration folder, assuming you have not defined a separate shared-home folder.

This should automatically be taken care by Bamboo as part of upgrade process. Can you recheck the permission of all the files and folders and make sure they are running with user which is running Bamboo.

Regards,

Shashank Kumar
