BitBucket Storage Location on Linux Host

Josh Nielsen May 17, 2018 edited

Hello,

I am in the process of creating a new virtual hard drive and logical volume for the Virtual Machine Linux host that we installed BitBucket on to hold several terabytes worth of data that will be loaded into our instance of BitBucket.

I would like to either mount the new volume to the default location that BitBucket saves its data, or point BB to use a custom mount location on the OS like /data. What would you recommend?

Also as an aside have any problems been noted historically with BitBucket dealing with multiple terabytes of data in terms of indexing or other issues that might impact performance when interacting with such a large amount of data?

Thank you.

Hi @Josh Nielsen,

To change Bitbucket Server home directory (where it saves its data), please do the following:

  1. Shutdown your Bitbucket Server
  2. Copy contents of /var/atlassian/application-data/bitbucket/shared directory to the new filesystem
  3. Mount the new filesystem at /var/atlassian/application-data/bitbucket/shared
  4. Start Bitbucket Server

Please see bitbucket server home directory page for more details on Bitbucket Server  home directory.

Regarding your question about indexing and performance, it is probably related to Elasticsearch and if this does become an issue with terabytes of data, then Elasticsearch can be off-loaded to another server.

Let us know if this helps.

Regards,

Kanwar
