Can I upgrade from Stash v. 3.11.6 straight to Bitbucket 4.12, or do I have to do incremental builds?

Yes you can, but aware of plugins you are using in Stash 3.x, they all be incompatible with Bitbucket 4.x (check your Stash Administration/Manage Addons)

From what i read, yes but since my stash was not as outdated it really makes sense reading the upgrade notes, just to be sure. If you use VMware or LVM on linux, shut down stash, snapshot the VM or LVM and do the upgrade. If it does fail, a rollback in done in seconds.
