Whats your view on git pre-commit and pre-receive hooks

I have recently written up an article all about git pre-commit and pre-receive hooks and how I believe they boost productivity. I will soon be posting it, although first I am keen to get some insight from my fellow community on your views on git pre-commit and pre-receive hooks.

Do you use them within your SCM process? Do you find them efficient? or do you find they slow you down?
