Expanded component description functionality

You can now add tables, nest links, format text, create lists and much more in the component overview page!

If you’ve used other Atlassian products you should be familiar with the range of formatting options available to you. We are excited to announce that that same set of functionalities is available in the component description!

What is being added?

  • Tables - improve the presentation of complex information.

  • Lists - create an ordered list to arrange your information in a specified hierarchy, or an unordered list for items of equal importance.

  • Code block - display code in a more readable format.

  • Nested linking - make your URLs more human-readable.

  • Text formatting - Make your text bold, italic, underlined, sub or super script among other options.

  • … and much more!

Want to get started?

Simply edit the component description like you usually would by clicking on it. You’ll notice that this now opens a modal, which has a dropdown to allow for additional formatting options.

If you don’t have a description set at all, you’ll notice we now have a prompt to make it more obvious how to add one.

Note: This functionality is currently only supported in components not managed by config as code.

When will support for this be extended to config-as-code managed components?

Is there any plan to allow rendered display of existing wiki content (e.g. README.md) from a component's repository?
