New! Express yourself with Confluence Reactions 😍

👋🏿  Hello Community!

My name is Daniel Ayele, and I'm a Product Manager on the Confluence team.

On the Confluence product team we’re always dreaming up ways to help our customers interact with their teams and be more productive and successful.

Likes 👍  have existed as a feature in Confluence for many years, but we believed that we could give customers even more expressive and lightweight tools to express their opinions and engage with their teams.

Today, I’m excited to announce Confluence reactions, a new feature rolling out now to Confluence on web and soon to Confluence mobile.

What are reactions?

Reactions are an interactive, lightweight way for you and your team to express yourselves on content in Confluence. Now, instead of only being able to like a page or comment, you and your teammates will be able to choose from dozens of emoji reactions (including your own custom ones). 

Reactions you create on pages and comments will also show up on your Home feed, making it even easier for you and your team to highlight and discover the best content. You can also add reactions to pages directly from the feed, helping you quickly engage with your team and content wherever you are in Confluence.

Reactions can make your content even more engaging! At Atlassian, we've been using reactions over the last few months and have seen a 6.4% increase in people using reactions every week and a 16% increase in the total number of reactions created!

We’re really excited about the potential of this feature to help teams engage more meaningfully with content. And this is just the start, our teams are hard at work to bring you even more collaborative experiences on Confluence.

Thank you @DA for this new additions to Confluence. I use the currently available reactions very frequently in both my team created confluence content as well on presentation content with clients.

They are a simple gesture with lot's of meaning and of course time saving.

May I know if this feature is already deployed or going to be rolled out in the upcoming weeks or months?

Cool. Together with the new page status feature it could help to show an approval workflow of a page.
Therefore: is it possible to send out notifications when a reaction is added or a status changed?
(We are on confluence cloud standard)

Is there a way to identify the unique user reactions on a blog. We just see 5 names on the reactions when hover overed.

A list of names has little context, we need to see the types of reactions people are adding.

IS ti possible to change default reaction emojis in order?
We really need "check mark" in default reaction emojis, otherwise it causes few more clicks which makes teams to not use.

Is it possible to get aggregate data or analytics on reactions? At the very least, which pages have the most reactions, or the most recent reactions?

@Chris Snyder HI Chris, I'm the PM over on notifications and reactions- unfortunately it's not on our current roadmap to include the actual emoji in the email but we are looking into how we can make it more useful so you don't have to click into email to figure out the emoji.

This sucks.  It's so nice of you to add a feature that not everyone wants with no way to disable it.  Way to go!  At least in the server version we could use the HTML macro feature to do this.  Now, you force us to the cloud and offer fewer features.

@Nancy Shao Thank you. That would be great if we could see the reaction without having to go to the individual confluence doc.

It feels like the email is saying: "Susan has reacted to your comment. We're not going to tell you her reaction until you click the link to find out what the secret reaction was". It takes something that should take 2 seconds to do, and turns it into 10 (maybe exaggerating). Either way. Thank you for looking into this =)

Reactions were great when they first came out, but a recent modification to Confluence Cloud makes the reaction follow me around the page rather than just stay at the bottom.  When people use gifs for the reactions, it becomes an accessibility nightmare.  I don't need moving gifs following me around as I try to read the content - that's just a huge distraction.  Just leave the reactions at the bottom of the page where they belong.
