Anchors to sections in different page do not work

Anita Pinto November 23, 2020

Hi

I have been trying to link anchors to a section in a different page in confluence but in the same space:

it goes to the section but then jumps right back to the top of the page

I went through the documentation notes, but it did not help.

i.e. I used the "url+of+the+page#anchor"

Can someone please advise if they have experienced a similar problem and if there is a solution.

Thank you.

Anchors are case sensitive that is one thing that you can check.

Another is if you are looking for the entire url its going to look something like this

page: LoremIpsum
anchor: test
url: [webadress]/LoremIpsum#LoremIpsum-test

so you need the page attached to the anchor in the url.

Easiest is to add a link within the page to test it out and that will also give you the url if you click on it.

Hi Krister

Thanks for getting back to me, really appreciate it.  I was not in the office and hence the late reply.

Anchors within the page works perfectly fine.

The issue is if I link an anchor to

  1. another section (example about 5 paras below)
  2. on another page
  3. within the same space

The link goes to that section (5 paras below) AND immediately jumps to the top of the page.

Several of my colleagues are experiencing the same issue.

Regards

Anita

That is very strange. Does anyone in your office not experience the same thing? Try using a different webbrowser and see if that changes things.

Do you have any special characters in your page name? If so the page url might show the id number instead. When linking like this however you should use the page name and not the id.

Thanks Krister

I logged a ticket recently and sent a screen recording video to the support staff. I received a response last evening that this is actually a bug in Confluence which has been fixed in Confluence 7.8.0.

Staff in my organisation, using this feature has the same issue.

The Atlassian support staff mentioned that if we place the link below some texts in the target page anchor link starts working again. For the permanent fix, you will have to upgrade Confluence to 7.8.0 and above.

I tested this and it is not working.

Krister thank you once again for your support I really appreciate it.
