Just a heads up: On March 24, 2025, starting at 4:30pm CDT / 21:30 UTC, the site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance for a few hours. During this time, the site might be unavailable for a short while. Thanks for your patience.
×We've been finding Confluence Server (6.15.6 at moment) for some years in Australia (& recently Asia) and finding it increasingly useful to help build effective knowledge sharing culture.
Our USA colleagues recently introduced Microsoft Teams and we'd like to learn (& share) forward on this with view to a possible Confluence Server / Microsoft teams co-existence.
We figured a good place to start would be to see if could establish a dialogue with existing sites using same to their satisfaction. (Happy to tic tac here or directly.) Cheers - Hugh (KM Team, Melbourne)
Hi Hugh,
Very nice question.
There are 2 main ways to integrate Microsoft Teams and Confluence Server.
1. Uni-directional. Information flows from Confluence Server to Microsoft Teams. For instance, Confluence Server can post cards/messages about events in Confluence (pages, blogs, comments created or updated). The key benefit here is simplicity and reduced security surface, as you don't need to expose you Confluence to the Internet.
2. Bi-directional. Information flows both ways. For instance, Microsoft Teams users can reply to comments, search content and embed cards, unfurl links and even embed pages in the Microsoft Teams tabs. I would bet this integration is more useful, because people can do more actions from Microsoft Teams. However, this way forces to expose more functionality "to the world" in order to have this tighter integration. Additionally, not all things are possible (like Tab embedding) as Confluence (as many other web apps) doesn't like to be embedded in an iframe.
If you need further help with Microsoft Teams and Atlassian products please let me know.
As a vendor, we've got currently in the market the one-way integration - Microsoft Teams Confluence Connector and we are in the final step of the review my Microsoft of our Bi-directional integration.
This month we are working hard on the release of a new version with tons of new features (filters, alerts, scheduled reports, enhanced performance, etc).
Please help us shape it by providing your requirements (3 questions) - https://moveworkforward.typeform.com/to/bPPlBr
All the best,
