Actually, it seems to be working now.  Maybe some browser cache sadness after I enabled.  Anyway, works as expected - same as HipChat.  (feelsgoodman)

Yes, HipChat Emoticons is a bundled plugins for Confluence 5.9

I have enabled them in Confluence Server 5.9.4 - but what is the usage after enabling?  They do not seem accessible same as in HipChat.  (feelsbadman)
