Authenticate User Confluence macro

Hi there,

Let's say that I have a coded macro and I need the user that is going to use the macro to authenticate by typing his/her credentials.

How can I check these credentials are correct? Or in other words, if there is some way to authenticate a user against the instance by using REST API calls, client or server side.

I am using Confluence Cloud, and my add-on is based on Node.js + Connect framework.
