Can I reduce the maximum attachment size for new attachments without impacting existing attachments?

Bill Brinkley July 1, 2020

Good morning, is there a way to decrease the maximum attachment size for new attachments without impacting existing attachments? If I decrease my maximum attachment size from 100 MB to 10 MB I still want to be able to editing existing attachments larger than 10 MB on a page and save them back to the page.

In my test environment I set the maximum size to 10MB and tested. I could not edit and upload an existing attachment that was larger than 10MB.

Thanks

Hi Bill,

Existing attachments will still be available to view/download, but will not be available to edit or upload. This is because the edit / upload is subject to the max attachment size limit, as you experienced. Cheers!

Hi @Bill Brinkley

That's a good idea to decrease a bit the 100 MB limit 😉

We had a customer who needed a default maximum of 5 MB, except for some specific Jira issue types. We solved their use case with our FILE app that is giving the possibility to define specific file custom fields with specific maximum attachment size.

Have a nice day.

Cheers,

David
