Confluence Upgrade

AKASH BHARDWAJ November 20, 2013

Hi Geniuses,

I am going to upgrade my Confluence from 4.3 to 5.3/5.0.

So can you all please tell me what all precautionary measures should i take, i have a checklist as:

a) Home Directory

b) Installation Directory

c) Database Backup

Beside this is there anything that i should be taking care of, also should i make a note of Plugins installed?

I am following this site of confluence:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Upgrading+Confluence#UpgradingConfluence-UpgradingConfluenceonLinux

Beside this any other site which will help me while upgrading and roll back if anything

Thanks in advance,

In our environment we have a non-production copy that we refresh occasionally. We then upgrade that prior to upgrading the procution version and test that plugins work and everything like that. We usually give that a week or so to find any issues. We also have our two enviroments running in virtual machines so that we can snapshot them prior to the upgrade so that if anything fails during the upgrade process we can easily revert the snapshot and be back to the way we were.

This isn't really related to upgrades, but we also backup the database and wiki folders nightly.

@rambanam: Hi,

I have gone through this link, but it no where says the precautionary measures and steps to upgrade. So can you help me out with the link which is more relevant.

Thanks,
