Drop-downs and filters in Confluence Tables

Gillian Rourke April 24, 2019

Hi!

So I've been reading up on all the answers to previous drop-down questions, and it seems as though there are at least a couple of great solutions out there (that I would love to try), HOWEVER, the only macros I have available to me are:

  • Table filter
  • Table excerpt
  • Table excerpt include
  • Multi-excerpt, page properties etc.

I've been asked to try to find a solution to this, and I'm wondering about nesting macros inside each other.

You could think of it like this:

We have a number of pages, each aligned to a specific paint supplier.

On that paint supplier's page, we want to capture the colours, finishes and sizes of paint they have.

For colours, finishes and sizes, we want to maintain central lists, partly to maintain data integrity.

I realise this may be a big ask, especially as I am unable to resort to adding a really handy-sounding plugin!

Thanks for reading!

Hi Gillian,

You should also have these macros:

  • Pivot Table
  • Chart from Table
  • Table Transformer

These macros are part of Table Filter and Charts app as well as Table filter, Table excerpt and Table excerpt include.

You can use:

  1. Page Properties macro with a single row table containing paint supplier's data on each page and Page Properties Report macro to collect data from different suppliers in a single report.
  2. Table Excerpt macro with a multiple rows table on each paint supplier's page. On the report page use Table Transformer with "Merge" preset that have Table excerpt include macro inside. Table excerpt include will collect all tables from pages and Table Transformer will merge those tables into a single table.

Then you can filter the report table with Table Filter macro, aggregate it with Pivot Table and so on.

I'll be happy to help you with your case, just provide more details on this.

Hi Andrey,

Thanks so much for your reply!  I've had a look and while I have Pivot Table and Chart from Table, I don't have Table Transformer.

If I had to go down the route of requesting an app, is there one that you would recommend above all others?  I see there are a few that could potentially give me what I need.

Thanks so much for your help!

Gillian

Table Transformer macro is available in version 5.0.0 and newer of Table Filter and Charts app. Please check what version you have.

I need to know more about your case to recommend something specific. Could you attache some screenshots with examples of tables and a report you need to have?
