When I am trying to restore (moving from one server to another) our instance of Confluence I encounter a strange, not a very descriptive error:
Your session has expired. You may need to re-submit the form or reload the page
I tried two different backup files (ZIP), tried changing permissions around, etc. No idea anymore.
The new installation is a docker container (official, latest). Migrating from MySQL to PostgreSQL on the way. Besides that nothing special I would say...
Trying to migrate my dev installation to production, I faced the same issue.
My problem was Chrome! When I switched to FF it went through.
Confluence version (both servers): 6.14.1
Chrome version: 77.0.3865.90 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Hi!
Please let us know more: At what point in the restore do you see the error? Are you restoring a site XML backup under Confluence Admin>Backup and Restore? Does the session timeout abort the restore?
Are you uploading the backup or is it in a directory on the server's file system:
To upload and import a small site:
- Go to
> General Configuration > Backup and Restore.
- Choose Choose File and browse for the site export file.
- Uncheck Build Index if you want to create the index at a later stage.
- Choose Upload and Restore.
To import a site from the restore directory:
Copy your export file to <confluence-home>/restore.
(If you're not sure where this directory is located, the path is listed in the Backup and Restore screen)
Go to> General Configuration > Backup and Restore.
Select your site export file under Restore a backup from the Confluence Home Directory.
Uncheck Build Index if you want to create the index at a later stage.
Choose Restore.
If the latter, it seems like the restore would complete despite your browser session expiring.
Please check whether another Atlassian application is overwriting your cookie: Logging into another Atlassian application logs me out of Confluence
Thanks,
Ann

Well, I found the issue - proxy settings for the container. But, based on the error message that was one of the last things I would check. Pure luck...

Thanks for the good news, I am relieved that you found the issue.
If you have time to update this thread to let us know what you set differently on the proxy it may help the next person with an ambiguous error like that. (We have had a lot of Docker questions lately so it could be really useful.)

I'm in the same position now... Mind sharing what configuration you did to your proxy?

I accessed confluence directly on it's port exposed using docker (8090), but I still got this message. I ended up doing the setup using a blank start, then doing restore from admin, after I logged in using the admin-user...
