File List template not working properly when clicking on document link in page

Joel Brotman July 14, 2020 edited

I created a new File List page and dragged or uploaded a file (excel).  If I click on the document link in the confluence page the file is downloaded (not opened properly in confluence).  If I open the downloaded file (it opens directly in excel and not through confluence) and edit and save it, it is not added to confluence version control and not saved.  I must follow the procedure below to open the document properly in confluence.  However, users will not know to perform this and will not be editing and saving if they just click on the document link.

It does work properly if I expand the document info (arrow to the left of the file name) and then select preview.  I can then edit properly in confluence and document is version controlled.  Also, I can click the 3 dots at the top right and select attachments.  In this view I am able to successfully click on the document link and open properly in confluence for editing.

Update:  After using this some more, I think it is probably working correctly.  It is useful to be able to download the latest version, and this is accomplished by clicking the link.  The arrow to the left of the link allows for previewing and viewing the doc in confluence.
