How to Sort a Table in Confluence?

We are on Confluence 5.8.6 and documentation states that in "view mode" there should be sorting capability on each column header, however we don't see that capability.  I have set the first row as a column header. What am I doing wrong?

When you hover over a column head, arrows should appear:

The up/down sort arrows are hard to see ... but even so, just clicking the column name will change the sort order
