Imported an 5.0 backup into a 6.14 site and list of spaces is missing

mitchell balsam March 5, 2019

I migrated a 5.0 backup into a 6.14 server but now the list of spaces that usually appears at the top level is missing..

The spaces exist and work, if i find them with the spaces directory.

I also made sure that the star icon is clicked in the all spaces directory.

Any ideas?

Hi Mitchell,

I understand you imported a 5.0 backup to 6.14, and you can't see spaces in the space directory.

Upgrade process

As a disclaimer, we don't recommend using the XML backup to upgrade Confluence, especially on version jumps as large as 5.0 to 6.14. The XML there are many schema changes between Confluence versions that can lead to data corruption, and the XML backup becomes less efficient and more resource-intensive as Confluence grows larger. Instead, we recommend doing an in-place upgrade of the instance.

We have two supported methods to upgrade Confluence: manually or using an installer. The manual method basically involves downloading the newest version of Confluence, then running it against your existing Confluence Home directory. The installer method uses an installer to automate most of this process. The pages below outline the full steps for completing each method:

Reindex

That said, you may be able to resolve the issue you're seeing with a reindex:

  1. Rebuild the search index by going to Cog > General Configuration > Content Indexing, then clicking the Rebuild button.
  2. If you still cannot see the spaces, rebuild the indexes from scratch by following How to rebuild the content indexes from scratch.

I hope this helps!
