This would be the equivalent of the highlight function in Word or Outlook.
Alas no, this is a longstanding feature request:
So out of the box, the only thing you can do is either change text color (meh) OR "highlight" words by commenting on them.
Now, because this is such an old request, there is add-on for the dearly departed Confluence Server:
Additionally, there is some clever CSS hackery to "hijack" the subscript style here (I don't know if this still works in either On-Prem or Cloud):
Lastly, I will leave you with this rather epic old discussion about this topic. Various macros, workarounds and hacks are discussed (again, unsure what still works, and whether it will work On-Prem vs Cloud. My gut would tell me that most solutions will not work on Cloud).
Fun stuff! But ultimately I think the unfortunate answer is a simple no.
