How do permissions / restrictions work in a tree of pages?

If I have a page structure like this:

A, permissions for group X

    B, permissions for group Y

    C, permissions for group Y

I.e., B and C are under A.

If A has restrictions enabled and only allows group X to view/edit the page, and B has that set up for group Y, will A.X also be applied to B? That is, a member of Y that is not in X is not allowed to view B, because A's permissions also apply to B and C?

Hi Stefan,

viewing restrictions are inherited by the child pages (the whole tree is not visible if you are not permitted to view A)

editing restrictions are not inherited. They are only valid for the restricted page itself.

In your example, Y can't see anything.
