Assuming you upgraded from a version prior to 4, you will find that Confluence now stores its data as xhtml and only has a WYSIWYG editor. You can still use some wiki shortcuts (eg. "h1.") and define specific wiki style areas using the {wiki} macro.
You might want to check out Atlassian's Confluence Source Editor if you need to tweak content.
