Attachments missing in Confluence

M.R. van Kleef October 29, 2013

I'm using Confluence 4.2.1 and I have pages where attachments are disappearing.
Attachments are stored on disk and they aren't removed physically but the records in the Attachments table in the database seem to be removed, so the attachments cannot be found by a page.

It only happens on a few pages but if so all (links to) attachments on that page are removed.
I don't think someone has deleted them by accident, because the files themselves are not removed, only the links in the database. Is there some kind of process what's causing this? A bug in Confluence?

We have the same problem with Confluence 5.1.5. We resolved it by recreating the attachements (which were still in the attachment directory).

There is this, https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-16348 reported problem/workaround that may work for you. It didn't work for us though.

Thanks. I can try it but running the script or recreating the attatchments cannot be a definite solution. Until now there is only one user who reported this problem but I have about 60 spaces and hundreds of users. I expect this will be much more in the next months.
If this isn't solved by Atlassian yet, I need to look for a document management system to store important attachments.

I have contacted Atlassian Support for this but they need more information, for example from the log files. I have to wait until this problem will occur again.

I have created a trigger on the attachments table which is fired when an attachment is removed. The attachment data will be copied to a temporary table. If an attachment is removed from a space where nobody has permissions to do so, I'll get a mail of that. Then I can look in the log files for more information.
