Best way to migrate large confluence instance from mysql to postgres

Johan Ferner

Hello,

The subjects says what I want to do. I have had bad experiences with xml export/import so I would like to do this at database level.

Have anyone successfully migrating using sql export from mysql and importing that file into postgres (possibly transforming some syntax)?

Any tools? Docs? Tips? Am I totally barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks,

Johan

Hi Johan,

what's your problem with the xml-export?

And what is large?

I used the xml-export for a 16 GB installation migrating from MySQL to Oracle. We had problems at the beginning, so we excluded the attachments and copied them manually to the new instance and used the xml export only for the wiki content.

How many spaces do you have? Is it maybe an option to migrate space by space using xml-export?

Regards

Steve

Thanks for your answer, I tried to export spaces nightly into a Disaster Recovery environment using xml export/import and ran into all sorts of inconsistent behaviour. Perhaps because of repeated delete/import. Perhaps because I exported attachments. I ended up copying the whole filesystem at that time. Examples of problems: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-33485 https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-34686 https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/Some+questions+or+answers+are+missing+after+a+XML+import But perhaps excluding the attachments and fixing inconsistencies once is the best way to go... Regards, Johan
