Can I restrict a user adding comments to a sub-space in Confluence?

vanessa.dsouza March 7, 2022

I want to disable the add comments permission to a particular subspace in Confluence as sometimes users start a discussion through comments. However, I would like the permissions enabled for other sub-spaces.

Hi Vanessa,

As you are speaking about sub-spaces, I assume you might be referring to our app SubSpace Navigation for Confluence. In any case, @Dexter Broadnax is right. The space permissions are not affected by configuring a space as a sub-space and so you'll want to use the space permissions of the (sub-)space in question to change commenting permissions.

In its current release, other elements (Confluence pages, blogposts, links etc.) can be child elements as well. If it's one of those, other configuration rules would apply. You can check the element type by editing the navigation and navigating to the element in question.

Hi Vanessa

By subspace you mean the Confluence spaces correct? That is possible, but only for spaces. If you go to the space permissions and uncheck the checkbox stating "Add comments" for the users/groups in that space, they won't be able to add comments anymore to that space. You may need to change this permission for other spaces too if you want to remove that permission for other spaces.

the permissions on Confluence are enabled by marking some checkboxes in the administration menus. and specific pages can be restricted by using the confluence page restriction functionality
This doc should explain in further detail how to mange those permissions https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/space-permissions-overview-139521.html
