Has anyone tried setting up Confluence 4.3-RC1? I tried on my Windows Server 2003 R2 with MySQL server 5.0.86 and it failed miserably while setting up database with JDBC.

Then i chose to use HSQL and then i can't even create my admin account during setup, after choosing to install with example site contents.

Anyone has similar issues?

Please note that MySQL 5.0 is not supported by Confluence 4.3. Check Supported Platforms for more information. Upgrade to a newer version of MySQL if you want to use this DB server.

Thanks. But what about the admin creation error?

to me it looks like you have some issues saving the confluence.cfg.xml

Unable to move C:\Program Files\Atlassian\Application Data\Confluence\confluence.cfg.xml2155273733698608188tmp to C:\Program Files\Atlassian\Application Data\Confluence\confluence.cfg.xml. Falling back to non-atomic overwrite.

this shouldn't be an DB Type/Version issue....maybe more a permission problem?

Thanks. About this problem you quoted, it happens to all my instances, JIRA, Confluence, etc. All have this problem but everything runs fine in production/test environment.

Yes, as i can remember. Haven't done any new setup in months. So far i have this problem on Windows platforms.

I think it's a file permission problem, which is fine as it does not stop me from starting up the instances.

Which guide have you followed? Is there anything in the logs?

Hold on. I'll set it up again and give you the log if it persists. I just reverted the folders to use 4.2.6.

What i did during my setup was:

  1. Upgraded from 4.2.6.
  2. Shut it down again due to customization made to 4.2.6 earlier.
  3. Replaced with an empty $CONFLUENCE_HOME directory, so it would be setup as a new instance.
  4. Setup proceeded as expected, entered developer license, and chose production setup.
  5. Selected MySQL and proceeded.
  6. Updated JDBC connection string with the correct database name, and also appened &useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf8 to the end of JDBC link.
  7. Pressed next and it complained it cannot find the JDBC class type.
  8. So i proceeded with HSQL.
  9. Chose to have example site.
  10. Then chose to manage users and groups within Confluence.
  11. Changed my admin username to something else, like 'mahai'.
  12. And i got this error.

This was the 1st run, which i have not kept the logs.

The 2nd round, which i did to reproduce the problem for you was:

  1. Install a fresh 4.3 RC1.
  2. Continue with MySQL with JDBC, succeeded this time.
  3. But failed at the same admin setup screen.
  4. Here's the log file:
