We have stopped receiving notification emails and there are about 1400 emails in the queue. Flushing the queue doesn’t send the emails out. We are able to successfully send test messages so we know the configuration is correct. The scheduler is running and we have verified that we have more than enough memory available. We recreated the mail server and tried to flush the mail again with no success. We also put the instance in safe mode but it had no affect on the mail queue.
We ran into this same issue last month. We were only able to clear issue be restarting the server. We'd like to understand what is causing the problem and how to prevent it from occuring in the future. This Confluence instance contains all of our product documentation and is accessed by our customers 24X7.
We're running Confluence 5.1.5. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Is there permanent fix or feature the to prevent this issue in confluence?
Accoreding to Colin comment, it seems to be related to this bug report: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-29033
In case of changing the values not fix the issue, have you guys tried to do a [rebuild of the content indices from scratch? https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/Rebuild+the+Content+Indices+from+Scratch
Hope it helps!

The safest way would be to upgrade to the latest version of confluence , 5.5.x+, and maintain something like a monthly schedule of server/confluence restarts.

Same problem on Confluence 5.2.3. Based on Teresa's post, do I have to restart the server? or just restart Confluence?
