How do I turn off email notifications on confluence?

Laura Villaruel April 27, 2018

Hi, our team is currently new to Confluence. We just want to know if there's a way where the users would not be able to receive the notification if the creator makes any edits or updates on the pages. Appreciate the help.

Hey Laura,

You can stop all Confluence notifications by following the steps below but this is not recommended:

  1. Navigate to Confluence administrators menu.
  2. Navigate to "Manage Add-on" menu.
  3. Choose "System Plugins" from the drop down list.
  4. Find and click "Confluence Content Notification" plugin.
  5. Click the "<Number> of <Number> Modules enabled" button.
  6. From there, find and disable the following modules.

Note that this works only on Server installations.

For Cloud, you don't have the option to turn modules off, it's a restricted function.

The answer for Cloud is to get your users to work through [Confluence Notifications|https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/email-notifications-145162.html] and turn down/off the frequency of adds, autowatches and so-on.

Hi @Laura Villaruel,

Users can stop watching the sites or pages in order to stop receiving email notifications. In your profile, enter in Watches option and stop watching whatever you want.

Hi @Laura Villaruel,

I wouldn't personally disable all notifications in the system settings. Instead, give your users the option to stop watching pages and adjust notification settings.

As part of new user setup, I have all my users update these settings to make sure they don't get spammed.

Like @Francesc Arbónoted above:

  1. Click profile icon, go to watches, un-watch unnecessary content.
  2. Click profile icon, go to settings, uncheck autowatch and other options if desired.
