We are planing to upgrade our current confluence v.4.2 to latest confluence v.4.3.2 (or any newer). How do we know which upgrade methods we should use? According to the documentation:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF43/Upgrading+Confluence
There are a few options: Migration from Wiki Markup to XHTML-Based Storage Format;Migration of Templates from Wiki Markup to XHTML-Based Storage Format;Upgrading Confluence Manually;Upgrading Confluence EAR-WAR Distribution. How do we know which method we should use? We are running confluence on a CentOS Linux box, and MySQL database. The person who originally installed confluence is not longer in the company, so we don't know how did he install it at the first place. Please advice.
And another question is: will the upgrading process carry all plugin and add-ons into the newer version? We also have another test confluence server (with 10 user license), it is with v.4.3.1. How do we also upgrade it to the latest version of v.4.3.2?
1st question : Deciding the upgrade mechanism to follow
First you need to find what is type of current installation is it war deployed in existing tomcat directory or a standalone. You can quickly identify that by going into the Confluence directory ior the way you start stop the Confluence if you fire a tomcat or other application server command to start/stop it's war installation, if you run /etc/init.d/confluence start/stop it must be a standalone.
Once you have identified the same you can decide on the upgrade path if it's standalone just follow the instructions on the link you have share above no need to bother about subitmes under that, if not you need to follow the instruction for EAR/WAR installation instruction as mentioned here
https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF43/Upgrading+Confluence+EAR-WAR+Distribution
2nd question : upgrading process carry all plugin and add-ons
If you use standalone installer with the same settings as earlier one it should carry all plugin and addon.
3rd question : Upgrade 4.3.1 to 4.3.2
Refer the upgrade document it will more or less same.
