Issue: Math Block with Anchor shows Java code, not equation number

I generate two Latex Math Blocks, one without and one with an anchor:

Issue: The Math Block with an anchor shows a Java code instead of the equation number.

This is running on our company's Confluence page ("Powered by Atlassian Confluence 8.5.5"). Perhaps this issue was introduced by a recent update as all Math Blocks with Anchors on existing pages now show a Java code (where they previously showed an equation number).

Any ideas what to do?

I presume my company updated something, and now I have this exact issue.  I spent the time to write clear documentation, and now it's polluted with incorrect formatting.  Here we are 11 months later, no response?

FWIW: the code-like text is not java, it's HTML.
