Atlassian documentation on wot use OAuth on a Confluence server

We are trying f=to find very formal documentation from Atlassian site or any other on HOW TO:

- Authenticate into a Confluence server (NOT CLOUD and NOT JIRA) using OAuth

- We prefer to use that method of authenticating as opposed to the basic type: userID/password

I spent almost 3 hours looking for it on Google, but could not find anything that "clean"  and well documented on how to use OAuth to authenticate int a Confluence server.

This below is the only page of value about OAuth on Confluence server and It is not even that good since none of these points to a solid well-documented OAuth use of the OAuth protocol in Confluence - Most of the answers on this page to complain about not being able to find any documentation or "the OAuth URL"...

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Questions/Confluence-Oauth-Authentication/qaq-p/331326

Would be great if anyone could provide any link to an Atlassian webpage that actually talks in details about how to use OAuth to authenticate into a Confluence server.

Thank you.

Hi Mike,

Currently, the basic userID/password authentication is the only authentication available for Confluence Server API requests. However, we do have a feature request open with the developers for further authentication options: CONFSERVER-51142 - REST API - Improved HTTP Authentication. The product team implements feature requests according to the Implementation of New Features Policy.

If you're interested in seeing this improved in the future, I recommend voting for the ticket and watching the ticket for updates.

I hope this helps!

Hi Michel,

could you explain a bit more about what you're trying to do?

Are you trying to hit the REST API and want to use OAuth?  Are you building a plugin?

Thank you for your reply.

We are trying to use the REST API to update the content of some of our confluence server pages.

It is already working well, however, we do not like using the basic userID/password method to authenticate into the confluence server and we wish t use OUath to authenticate instead.

We tried to look for some documentation about using OUath to authenticate in a confluence server but we are having a very hard time to find anything of value..

What is the proper and very detailed way to authenticate in a confluence server?

Could you please provide any webpage on the Atlassian website that has anything of value that explains in details how to do that.

Thank you.
