I'm pretty sure that you can't achieve that with the built-in features of the editor as the whole page layout features is not meant to be that flexible but more about providing an easy to use way to structure your content. So each section is like a closed part in itself and won't mix with a previous or following one. More advanced and appealing page layouts always need some additional apps for Confluence and often a bit of familiarity with HTML/CSS.

@Tamsin Stirling I agree with @Max Foerster - K15t -- there is nothing out of the box you can use.
There are plugins that give Confluence a 'Theme', which you could try (I use RefinedTheme for our company Intranet and it lets me do stuff like the below with layouts):
