Just a heads up: On March 24, 2025, starting at 4:30pm CDT / 19:30 UTC, the site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance for a few hours. During this time, the site might be unavailable for a short while. Thanks for your patience.
×Hi Everyone,
when navigating to Space Admin -> Restricted pages I try to remove restrictions. When I'm clicking on the padlock on the right hand side against the page I get a message: "You do not have permission to view this page. Request access below, you will receive an email when you've been granted access." and there is a Request access button there.
I am a space admin here. How can it happen that I can't remove any of the testrictions in that space?
We have Confluence 5.6.6.
Please advise!
Thanks,
Rumi
Hi,
This is working for me (as suggested by Ramona_Scripcaru):
The administrator can remove restrictions applied on a page by navigating to:
You need to repeat the above for each user / lock icon on the page you want to unrestrict.
After you have done this for all users, then refresh the Restricted Pages and it will no longer be restricted.
Yes. I imagine this must've taken a long time for anyone to figure out this bug that works in our favour!!!
I can't believe normal clicking on a button doesn't get the action done cause of "No permission", but middle mouse button click just do it, permission or not!
Thank you so much. We must make sure Atlassian DOES NOT fix this bug cause if they do we'd really be stuck.
This is one of those instance that they can say "hey it's a FEATURE" and we'd take it.

It worked! Thank you very much. I think the key thing here for this to work is to
"You need to repeat the above for each user / lock icon on the page you want to unrestrict."
I tried before without following this sentence and it failed.

You could go to user administration and "Login as" a user that has permissions then add yourself to the restricted page.
Apparently having the ability to restrict page view within a Space from administrators is a "feature"

I am facing the same issue, did some resolve this issue???

Hi Rumceisz,
Got to Permissions and click the Restricted tab. From the Restricted tab you can click the lock icon and remove the restrictions from that page.

Kay

Hi Kay,
this is what I did and it did not work!!!! I navigated to the Space Admin -> Restricted pages and I clicked on the padlock and I got the message: "You do not have permission to view this page. Request access below, you will receive an email when you've been granted access." and there is a Request access button there.

I have this exact problem using Atlassian Cloud. Site and Space Admin are unable to unlock restricted pages. The pages came from a site import and none of the users from the old system are valid in the cloud, so run as user support doesn't work either.

Hi,
The administrator can remove restrictions applied on a page by navigating to:

This is a huge problem for me, since the page restrictions are for people who are no longer employed and are disabled.
Does Atlassian have a bug for this for the newer version of Confluence Server?

I have just discovered this bug as well. Please those responding do not provide the documentation on how to remove restrictions as a Space Admin, as several of us have followed those instructions and are still told we do not have permission to view the page.
It seems the only workaround is logging in as a user who has permission to view the pages but also permission to add viewers/editors, which will likely not work for most of us if that person no longer works at their organization.
If someone from Atlassian could acknowledge this issue that would be great. Thanks, Davis

Hi,
I'm facing the same problem and can't remove page restrictions as Site Admin. It's a big hurdle for me. Can someone from Atlassian answer? Regards, Patryk

any answers on this? what is the "site admin" role for when it can get "locked out"?

@Patryk Zgórka and @Stefan Salzl I have done it! I simply followed the steps pointed out by @Yves Ngounou and @Ramona Scripcaru . At first it did not work but i missed one important point which is pointed out by Yves.
2 key points where I made a mistake and it did not work.
"1. Right Click on the lock icon > Open Link in new tab > this will open a new tab with the page saying that you do not have permissions to see it, but will remove the restrictions."
- I did not do right click but just opened the page by clicking the link
2. "You need to repeat the above for each user / lock icon on the page you want to unrestrict."
- I did not do this for each user in the restricted page or opened only one tab and then checked if the restriction was removed. It was not! You have to do point 1 and go right after to point 2.
If you have multiple users on that page do not complete point 1 of only one user and check if the restriction has been removed. This will not work! You have to do point 1 and 2 straight one by one until last user on that page and only then go back to "Open Link in new tab" and refresh or just open the restricted page.
I have removed restrictions this way of over 15 pages I had no access to as a Site Admin.
I hope this helps.
