Delete user from Internal Directory

Hello:

Jira handles user identification to Jira and Confluence.  Today a user was having issues with permissions I granted them earlier and come to see a mismatch of Groups the user belongs to between Confluence and Jira so it's not syncing properly.

Confluence also reports the user belonging to JIRA Server and Confluence Internal Directory.

My assumption is if I remove the user from the internal directory syncing will function again so how do I go about that?  Logging into Confluence with an Internal Directory admin account, I don't see options to remove users.

Thanks.

If you have multiple User Directories, please ensure the Internal Directory is on the top. Then, you should be able to delete the internal users.

NOTE: If you switch priorities on the directories page, user permissions will be changed so that the one on top takes precedence over the others. This means if you have duplicate users in multiple directories, they will likely lose permissions until you switch the order, or delete the users from the internal directory.

@Jonny Polivka

Go to users & Security with administrator rights.

Open menu item users

select the appropriate user

Check whether it is recorded in the internal directory

Hi repi,

The 'Delete' option isn't displayed for me.

Hi,

same for me. As long as the user account was only available within the Confluence Internal Directory I've seen the "Delete" button. As soon as I had provisioned the same account through Jira and synced over to Confluence only "Disable" was available. I also changed the order of the directories but without any effect.

I found this article in the Confluence knowledge base: How to delete all internal Confluence users except the local administrator.

Please be careful! It works directly on the database and has not be tested for a while. Anyway it is related to Confluence release 7.7, so it might still be useful.

I will take this way and report here my results.

Hey @tokcum

I'd also be interested in your findings. I will be performing similar operation on Jira and I could definitely use some help before start.

Thanks,

Marcin
