Difference between Parent/Child and Ancester/Descendent in JIRA Rest API

Hey guys. In the Jira Rest API one constantly sees terms like descendent/child
and Ancestor/Parent

I would like to know what are the differences or what they mean in more detail.

Children will return only direct child pages 

https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/confluence/rest/api-group-content---children-and-descendants/#api-wiki-rest-api-content-id-child-get

Descendants will return child pages and child pages for those child pages and so on if present
