How do I display a JIRA description field in a Confluence page

Dave Thistlethwaite June 17, 2015

I want to summarise my user stories in a confluence page so that stakeholders can view and comment, but keep them away from the actual JIRA dev tickets

If I add the standard JIRA ticket link macro it shows the ticket number, status and summary

How can I show the description field  ?

Hey @Dave Thistlethw

You can try using an add-on like Jcreate that we created at Methoda, which allows you to create a Jira Issue from inside confluence while keeping the Jira experience. see:

The JIRA issues macro can show a list of issues based on a JQL query (instead of just a single issue key). You can modify the columns displayed in the dialog.

So you say add a query that only returns one item and just display the description column ?

Yes. Display as table and then you can add/remove columns as you like.

Using the display options.

Hi,  I have the same question but am new to Confluence/JIRA. I was wondering whether you could explain to me how I would structure a JQL query that would return the description for a particular issue key. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction here!

Hi Benjamin,

if you are looking for a specific issue, just enter the issue key and click the magnifier. A list of matching issues will be presented (only one in this case).
Select the issue and click Display options and select Table. In field Columns to display, remove all columns you don't need and add Description.

Tested on Confluence 6.8.1.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Kirstin

Hi

There's a way to remove the title of the Jira issue macro table? I use it just like that, to show just one field, but i can't hide the title.

Thanks

IMHO this can't be done with the JIRA macro alone. If I had to do this, I'd

  • wrap the JIRA macro in a div element (e.g. with a user macro or by using the Source Code Editor Add-on)
  • apply a CSS class to the div element
  • define some CSS on this class in your custom CSS that hides the table title.

Cheers,
Kirstin

@ have just published a a plugin that allows you to to choose the fields to be presented on a CF page:

Smart issue view for Confluence

Obviously you can also show description's preview. Here is an example:

On top of that it is possible to edit the issue right on a Confluence page (embed issues are automatically refreshed).

Please note, that this is a cloud only plugin.
