Immediately after installation: A system error has occurred — our apologies!

erikmergeport October 9, 2020

I just installed Confluence server, and immediately after the installation there were some strange errors: it seemed the css was not applied correctly (confluence was plain old HTML) and after some refresh and restarting the confluence service I got the following crash (details below).

Rather than fixing a broken system it would take me less time to erase the database and reinstall confluence from scratch. I did, however, enter the license details. Is there a way to re-use the license if I set up a new one?

Hi @erikmergeport ,

first of all, the license is not tied to a specific server or installation. If you have a valid license, it can be applied to a new installation if you want.

Regarding the errors, it could be a lot of different things but I would first check that you're using a version of Java that is support by Confluence.

Can you have a look at this page and check if your system is supported : https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/supported-platforms-207488198.html

I could also be that Confluence does not have the permissions to write on its own directory, please have a look if the user running Confluence can write and read its installation and home directory.

Let me know if this helps,

Hey,

thanks for the quick reply.

FYI: system and database are supported, not installing for the first time.

I'll check the user access rights (strange though, I just ran the usual install script on Linux), there were no error messages).

If there isn't a quick fix, I'll remove and re-install confluence; probably faster than troubleshooting.
