Just a heads up: On March 24, 2025, starting at 4:30pm CDT / 19:30 UTC, the site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance for a few hours. During this time, the site might be unavailable for a short while. Thanks for your patience.
×We are using a 4x4 table to showcase members of a team and using the User Profile macro within the cells.
When we populate more than the first column in the table, the entire page becomes uneditable. My Profile avatar disappears and when you go to edit the page you get nothing but a blank screen.
The first thought was the syncrony job for collaborative editing. We turned that off but the problem persists.
Then I tried combining sections and colums, but that butts up each User Profile right against the one above it, resulting in one huge blob of text and pictures in single columns
then I tried inserting a table to provide padding, and boom. The problem returns. Page becomes uneditable and my avator disappears
Hi @Carl Dotson,
do you by chance also have one or the other table enhancement plugins installed? We use both Table Enhancer and xTables for different use cases. Since Table Enhancer is only active when the table is embedded in the macro body, I deactivated xTables in our staging system. With xTables deactivated, the issue is solved.

Wow! Nice catch, Jens! :)
Carl, @Dirk Bromberg, do update us in case you're using the same sort of plugins on your instance, and if disabling them resolves your issue.
If it does, can you share the exact add-on you're using? We can bring this to the attention of the add-on provider.

Dirk is my superior, he uses the same plugin. :-p He just wanted to have an issue he can vote on, I guess.

Hello Everyone,
Yep! I am also running both plugins. Bummer the two can't play nice together. We have several teams that enjoy the functionality, so I don't want to disable one if I don't have too. To get around the issue I started rebuilding the "tables" using Sections and Columns macros. Agreed they are "tables" but at least we can arrange the User Profile macros in the resemblance of a table. :)

Hello,
Please have a look at the latest xtables version that tackles this snag

Preliminary testing is looking positive! I've tested a 4x4 table using the user profile macro to populate the cells. I have published and can still edit the page. The page is not breaking as before. :) So far, so good.

Hi Carl,
Can you let me know what version of Confluence I should use to replicate this and if you happen to see any error messages on the Confluence Server logs that might tell us what's happening here?
Thank you!
Shannon

Hi Shannon,
We are on version 6.1.4 build 7110. I'm using the latest version of Chrome. I've narrowed it down to the User Profile macro being used in the Confluence tables. Everything is good, UNTIL you add the User Macro into a second column. Then...boop! Profile image goes blank. And you will no longer be able to view the page in EDIT mode. You need to roll back to a previous version of the page and try another route. I ended up using a combination of Section and Column macros to try and achieve the same look and feel.
I will talk to Contegix to see if they have any server logs that might help pinpoint what's going on.

Hi Shannon,
if you try to replicate this, make sure that the profile contains additional Information other than the full name and email address. It only fails if the little table is included below.
Edit: Forgot to mention -- this also fails in 6.8.1 and 6.9.1.
Cheers
Jens

Is there an issue out in bugtracker already?

Hi everyone!
I attempted to replicate this myself in Confluence 6.9.1. I created a 4x4 table, and added a user profile macro to each cell. I ensured that there was more than just Full Name and Email Address. I added a profile photo.
The profile photo does display on every instance of the macro, and I am able to edit and save the page.
Is there any way you could show me how you have your table set up so I can try to replicate the same? Feel free to censor private information.
Please also confirm if the same occurs if there are no other add-ons on the page and if anything is showing in the Server logs.

Hi Shannon,
Here you go, this is in comparison to the source view. The issue is not that the profile macro doesn't show. But with the profile macro in a table cell (even a 1x1) the functionality is broken. Clicking on "Edit" opens a portion of the editor, but doesn't load the content. The address bar shows the URL of the viewpage action. Also, the button for toggling the sidebar doesn't work and the hover-title says "undefined" (sounds like a js issue) and the button for the space management popup doesn't work either.
I can't speak for the server logs.

Thank you Jens,
This is precisely what I was testing, but I'm not able to replicate.
For those of you experiencing the issue, are you all using Confluence with German? This could be a factor. If not, let me know what language you are using, and the exact browser version you're currently using.
Regards,
Shannon

Hi Shannon,
seems our answers crossed. I was able to temporarily solve the issue by disabling the xTables plugin. I can't do that in our productive system until I recall who asked me to install it. I already reached out to the developer and kind of hope that Carl has the same or a similar plugin installed.

I saw it! Thanks Jens. I'm tagging this question with that add-on, and I can do the same with the ones that Carl/Dirk might be using if that's the case. That way the vendor will see this.
Thanks again for your efforts,
Shannon
