how to use Document Revision in PDF template editior

Sjaak Derksen February 19, 2020

Hi

In the PDF template editor it is possible to include a placeholder "Document Revision". However, I have no idea how to influence this document revision placeholder when I apply the template to a confluence page for which I want to generate a PDF.

Best regards,
Sjaak

Hi Thomas,

Thanks! Yes. We do use the Scroll PDF Exporter.

The answer is clear. But then I'm probably using the wrong placeholder. Is there a placeholder that I can configure freely inside the confluence page (or as metadata somehow) to indicate a fixed version when I use the Scroll PDF exporter? E.g. 1.0?

Thanks,

Sjaak

Hi Sjaak,

Would using the Page Property macro (on your page), alongside the Page Property placeholder (in your template) be an option?

With this approach you could create your own custom placeholders to reference content from the page property macro in your generated PDF export. You can read more about this process here.

Let me know if this helps, Thomas (K15t)

Hi Thomas,

I'll try this afternoon (in a meeting now :) ). The link is dead (404). But your answer seems like a solution, I'll get back to that.

I tried to apply your answer.. But the version remains empty in the generated doc. What am I doing wrong?

ok.. I needed to define the left column as header.. Done now.. And fixed.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Sjaak,

Thanks - the link should work again now (sorry about that).

By the looks of the table that you've included in the Page Property macro, you have a header cell formatting applied. If you remove this formatting it should work as expected.

Hi Thomas,

One tiny follow up issue related to this.. I saw the page property table ends up in the generated document as well. Can I avoid that (as is the case for the ToC)?

Best regards,

Sjaak

You can set the macro to 'Hidden', then it will only show up in the edit mode.

Hi Sjaak,

Thanks for the post. Was I right in thinking that you were using our app, Scroll PDF Exporter? Or were you using the native Confluence PDF exporter?

With Scroll PDF Exporter, the placeholder for the Document Revision will print the 'version' of the page which is accessible and displayed within the Confluence Page history (from the page tools menu •••).

Therefore, if you export the latest version of the specific page, the placeholder will render the latest revision number for that page in the export. Alternatively, if you were to navigate into the Page History and view an older revision/version of the page and then export this from the Page History section, the older revision number for the page and corresponding content will be exported.

Does information help? Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers, Thomas (K15t)
