We are planing to move confluence server to new machine with IP differ, we are testing the process and currently running confluence 3.4, we copied the data to new server and brought up, but I noticed that original server and test server have same Server IDs, does It cause Performance or License Issues or any other Issues, Please let me know.
one more Doubt: Is there any possibility to take users and groups backup excluding data and other things?
Thanks in advance.Thanks!
Vamsi Krishna
Hi Vamsi,
It shouldn't be a big issue although you can change it. There's a knowledge base article explaining how: Changing Server ID for Test Installations
Hope this helps.

Thanks Maarten,
We need to upgrade from 3.4(stand alone linux using mysql 3.0.95 ) to 3.5 then 4 then 6.
Can you provide a step by step documentation for upgrading and can you let me know where the attachments and other contents will be saved, that would be great, if you provide
Thanks!

@Vamsi Krishna Reddy I don't have any hands-on experience with that upgrade path but according to the Confluence upgrade guide the path is a little different. You should go from 3.4 -> 3.5.17 -> 5.0.3 -> 6.x.
You can check the upgrade guides for each of those versions for more details:
And if you really want to be sure, get in touch with one of the Atlassian Partners in your area or Atlassian Support.
Hope this helps.

Maarten

Hi Vamsi,
From the error description "OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" I would think Confluence does not have enough memory (at least heap space) available to do the backup.
You could have a look at the Knowledge Base Article: Cannot create or restore XML backup due to OutOfMemory errors but I'm pretty sure you'll have to increase the amount of memory Confluence has available (described as one of the solutions on the knowledge base article).
Best,
Maarten
