Required security token when restoring from backup

Victor Moleiro June 5, 2013

I am installing Atlassian Confluence 5.1.2 in a Mac Server. Currently I have a commercial license running in another server (version 5.1.2), but in order to migrate server I have generated a evaluation license (so both Confluence can be running concurrently) . In the Confluence Setup Wizard, I choose the option to restore data from another backup. When restoring data from the commercial version back up I get the message: "Your request could not be processed because a required security token was not present in the request. You may need to re-submit the form or reload the page." I use a Production environment and an Embedded database, both in the old commercial license and in the new Mac Server version. I have read another answers saying that I should enter in the websudo mode re-entering the administrator password. Actually, I have not even created the administrator user (it is the next step in the setup wizard) Is there any way I can migrate both users and data from the old server to the new one? Thanks in advance

Maybe a bit late in the day, but I managed to get the same error restoring on a supported platform.  In the end i started an incognito session and it worked.

If you want to be supported, I'd suggest going with a supported platform such as Linux (or Windows).

See https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Supported+Platforms for details.

I'd suggest to not import the backup during the wizard installation. Complete the installation first (create an empty Confluence site) and then import the backup via Confluence Admin > Backup & Restore.

I keep getting the same error message, once the installation is completed creating an empty Confluence site.

Sorry to hear that. Since that's the case, I'd suggest you to re-install Confluence again on the server. Once, the installation has completed, increase the session timeout value to 180, restart Confluence and import the backup. Hopefully, that will solve it and avoid the message from appearing again.

This issue could happened if the restoration process took a longer time than the default configured session timeout value which is 60 minutes.

I have tried your suggestion, but, unfortunatelly, the message remains there. I understood it could have been a problem of the administrator's session to finish, but the whole upload of the backup file (~4GB) takes less than a minute. The message appears just after it is uploaded. As the message suggests a "security token", may the problem be caused by a wrong license? Remember the backup was generated using a Commercial version of Confluence while it is trying to be restored in an Evaluation version, is it related to the problem? Taking another strategy, is there a way of copying the users and data from the windows Confluence instance to the one in the Mac Server? Thanks in advance

It's quite strange that 4GB backup could be restored in less than a minute and I don't think the restore is quite successful. To be frank, we do not test Confluence migration to MAC OS before so we can't be too sure if it will work without any issue. It's not part of the supported platform.

If you would still like to give it a try, perhaps you can use the database restoration method instead. Again, this is also something that we have not tested against, therefore we can't assure this would fully work for MAC. As mentioned by David, you may want to consider migrating the server to Linux/Windows instead.

Following your suggestions I have changed the operating system to Ubuntu. As in the previous case, I use an evaluation license to first install the Confluence (5.1.3) instance. When I try to restore the backup of a commercial version of Confluence (5.1.2) I keep getting the same error message: "Your request could not be processed because a required security token was not present in the request. You may need to re-submit the form or reload the page." I have tried the restoration both in the setup wizard and later in the configuration menu, in the two cases the same error message is displayed.

The error message appears about 30 seconds after the "Update and Restore" button is pressed, so I do not think it is a problem of administrator session to finish.

Using different Confluence licenses (evaluation and commercial) can produce this problem? I want to be sure of it in order to stop the Confluence commercial service an perform the migration at a once.

Please, this problem is starting to take too much time for an option that should have been an easy task. Thanks in advance for your help.

You meant that you had installed a fresh Confluence v5.1.2 in a Linux server right? In order to investigate further on this issue, I'd suggest you to create a support ticket to us at https://support.atlassian.com. In the ticket, please include the followings:

  • The link of this Answers's thread - so that our engineer could understand the history of the problem
  • Confluence logs - resides in <confluence-home>/logs
  • The XML backup that has the issue - so that our engineer could try and replicate the same problem
  • Screen shot of Firebug - Access Confluence via Firefox and install FireBug <http://getfirebug.com/network> add-on on the browser, reproduce the same issue, expand any information from the Firebug console 'All' tab and attach the full browser screen shot to the ticket.
