Upgrading confluence from 4.2.13 to 5.4.4

Hi,

We are trying to upgrade to 5.4.4 and a direct upgrade results in database faults. We have also tried to take mini steps and even the slightest upgrade to 4.3 does not work. How can we get updates to the latest release and from there I will ensure we stay current?

We went through and changed all the non UTF8_bin to the correct collation and things still failed, so management decided to hire an outside expert. Thanks for all your help! You guys were great, and I hope to be as Atlassian knowledgeable someday...

Also the recommended upgrade path for your case would be 4.2.13 -> 5.0.3 -> 5.4.4.

My mistake, it was OS indeed :).

First rule of all, set a Confluence Test Instance.

(the corgi above demands a test instance).

MySQL 5.1 is supported on latest version so make sure to also upgarde your java to 1.7 since 5 series are not suited (and not supported) to use JAVA 1.6.

After the above is checked check for this KB, 80% of the time mysql breaks because of the engine and character set, if they are ok proceded upgarding to latest version (from 4 series you can go to latest version fine), else let me know if your problem was the character set or the engine do not try upgarde and let me know.

Once the upgarde fails we will need to check if there's any errors in the atlassian-confluence.log that can give us some direction.

If you have a valid license my suggetsion is that you raise a support case since in Answers I can only give you some insight when I have some extra time :).

Well, that my friend is one of the highest inputs of cases we get in our support :), the first thing you should attack is the error and not the version.

Let me know the database/version you are using, your enviroment specs (SO and java version) and based on that I can give you some insights.

and I believe you mean OS not SO (please forgive my ignorance if I am mistaken) We are running on debian 6, but have also tried to install on 7.
