Why are my task lists suddenly showing as bullet points?

I'm very distraught to see that when I export my Confluence page which contains task boxes into a Word document they all get converted to bullet points.  There's no way to tell which ones are ticked from those that are not.  Very very concerning.  Can someone help?  The only export method that does it right is when exported into a pdf document, but that is of limited use.

This is a known bug and there is an open issue in the confluence JIRA, but there is no ETA when it will be fixed.
