This is a show stopper for us upgrading to Confluence 5.5 and beyond as we have built some necessary framework around the Personal Tasks Functionality.

You can't really.

You could raise another issue for it, but it will probably be marked as a duplicate (unless it is significantly different to the original). Atlassian have closed that one with an explanation of why they aren't going to do it, so you'd need to come up with a good reason for them to reconsider it. That does happen sometimes, especially if a lot of people ask.

I'm afraid that whatever you've built around personal tasks will have to be done in some other way though. Might be worth explaining in a question what you've done, and see if the community have any ideas on building something similar with plugins or confluence tricks.

From my experience, this will be quite difficult to achieve. When the PM resolved this issue as Won't Fix, they have taken into account a lot of consideration before moving this issue status into Won't Fix. Sorry.

That's a bit of a bugger really. It was great to be able to manage your tasks WITHOUT having to edit a page first. Hopefully the Functionality isn't lost forever ;)
