upgrade to 5.6.6 cannot edit certain pages

We are currently upgrading from 5.3.4 to 5.6.6 and have encountered an issue where the body of certain pages can no longer be edited. however, the title can be edited and it appears not to have anything to do with permissions of the users. I've read that this happened when upgrading from Confluence 3.X to 4.X, but the solutions I've found appear not to do the job. Has anyone else encountered this? We have 1200 pages that appear to have this problem sad
