did you notice the difference between the quicksearch (start typing into the search field instantly displays result based on page & attachment titles) or the full search which opens when you press return in the search field: This search allows searching the page / attachment contents etc. The result is sorted by relevance where the page title count more than the page body. You can also filter the result by date, space, author, contact type,...

Conflunece's search engine is actually quite full featured. The biggest issue is not being able to put wildcards at the front of search terms, but aside from that there is a pretty rich search syntax. The below link is Atlassian's documentation for their search syntax.
