Running Confluence over HHTPS; question about certificate generation

tim wilkinson May 1, 2017

Hi,

I think this should be an easy question but I'd like a bit of clarification over the step for certificate generation.

I"m following the instructions frpom https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf54/confluence-administrator-s-guide/configuring-confluence/configuring-confluence-security/running-confluence-over-ssl-or-https but am a little confused over Step 1 > Certificate Option 2 (I know - it's probably quite simple).

The bit I'm unsure about is '1. Use Java's keytool utility to generate a local certificate, as described in the previous section.'  Is the 'previous section' referred to here Certifcate Option 1? The Atlassian instructions use 'keytool -genkeypair' whereas I've seen instructions (including from Apache Tomcat docs) that say to use keytool -genkey. Is there a massive difference?

Cheers,

Tim

It is the prevsious section (i.e. creating self-signed cetificate).

There is a difference between -genkey and -genkeytool but both will work fine.
