Sidebar child pages area text limit

Derek Hunter March 27, 2019

The new "child pages" hover/area on the sidebar has a small character limit.  Therefore child pages with similar names look all the same.  So a page list like this:

  • Test results for Project A - 2019-01-01
  • Test results for Project A - 2019-01-08
  • Test results for Project A - 2019-01-15

will show up like this:

  • Test results for Proje
  • Test results for Proje
  • Test results for Proje

which is pretty useless since there's no way to distinguish the child pages.  As a result we're having to go around and add the {children display} macro to every page like this so we can use the child pages view.

Is there any way of adjusting this character limit or making the child pages area actually useful?

Hi Derek,

Can you resize the sidebar by clicking and dragging the handle between it and the content pane?

I can open and close the sidebar but typically what I want to do is use the child pages flyout from the collapsed sidebar.  I find the real estate that the opened sidebar occupies is quite substantial so I keep the bar minimized and opening/closing it every time I want to click a link is cumbersome.  Most of our page titles start with the same lead-in:  Project x - 2019 - Meetings - yyyy-MM-dd, and the most important thing the date is cutoff so the hyperlink for every page looks the same.  The flyout shows very few characters of the page title when it's a modal so it could show way more since it doesn't matter how much of the page it's obscuring.  Is there some styling that would allow this child flyout to be 2x-3x wider?
